Andrea Larsen
is a Mexican American ceramic artist who uses abstract design and quilt patterns as her visual language. In her work, Andrea strives to make connections between things that struggle to connect. Such as within herself ( the Mexican and American sides of her heritage) and the world at large (the polarization of humanity who in reality, need each other to thrive.)
She has a BFA in Studio Art and an MS in Art Education from the University of Tennessee. Andrea worked as a photographer for many years before moving into art education. She rediscovered clay while educating herself to teach clay to her high school students. During the pandemic, she had to alter her practice even more. Andrea only allowed the easy parts of her art practice into play. Turns out, making things hard has been what was getting in her way all along.
